I created this guide because I want you to see the city the way I do — not through a tourist lens, but through the spots that define our culture. Whether you're after the perfect Friday morning coffee or the best seat for a riverside sunset, this is my personal playbook for living well in Chattanooga.

Section 01
North Shore
Trendy, walkable, and the center of local luxury.
☕ Morning Routine
Start at Milk & Honey — founded by my friends Mike and Taylor Monen, it's the quintessential spot for gelato and high-end breakfast. For a great cup of coffee, Mean Mug is my go-to.
🍽️ Dinner & Drinks
Upscale? Il Primo for Italian or Frazier Five and Dime for small plates. Casual? Tremont Tavern has the city's best burgers. Basecamp (founded by friends Jacob and Brett) has incredible wings and super walkable.
🍣 Sushi & Sweets
Totto is the go-to for a sushi or hibachi night. Clumpies is the beloved local legend for hand-crafted ice cream — don't skip it.
🍸 Secret Lounge
The Rosecomb — a Michelin-recommended cocktail bar in a renovated bungalow near Riverview, the city's ritziest neighborhood. A true insider find.
🏫 Concierge Tips
North Shore is home to Normal Park, one of the top K-8 schools in Chattanooga. For shopping, hit Sophie's for décor, Locals Only for gifts, and the 2 North Shore hub featuring Whole Foods, Nooga Paws, and Gearhead outfitters.
⛳ Sports & Recreation
Albatross is a fantastic indoor golf simulator for those rainy Chattanooga days. For golfers, Chattanooga Golf and Country Club is a gorgeous private track — it has a waitlist, so you'll need to arrive with a member.

Riverfront & Bluff View
Where the Tennessee River meets world-class art.
The Power Meal — Hennen's Steakhouse
I worked here, and the consistency is simply unmatched. My order: Lobster Bisque, the Grilled Ahi Tuna, or the Boursin-Crusted Filet with a classic Cabernet. This is Chattanooga's gold standard for the business dinner.
On the Water — Boathouse Rotisserie & Raw Bar
The best restaurant on the water, full stop. It's always packed — here's the hack: head downstairs to the drink bar in summer, or grab one of the "boat seats" at the bar. You must order the Lawton's Margarita.
Bluff View Art District
Grab a coffee at Rembrandt's and affordable quality Italian at Tony's Pasta. The Hunter Museum is a must for world-class exhibits and the high-end events that define Chattanooga's cultural calendar.
The View You Can't Miss: Head to Whiskey Thief atop the Edwin Hotel for the best sunset view of the Walnut Street Bridge. For dinner, Whitebird is pricey but exceptional. And skip the basic theaters — the AMC Majestic 12 has luxury loungers with table service.

City Center & West Village
Urban grandeur and historic sophistication.
The Waymark Hotel
A game-changer for downtown. Descend to The Vault — a speakeasy literally inside an old bank vault — or ride to the 11th floor for Iris, the highest views in the entire city.
Culinary Elite
Easy Bistro (Chef Erik Niel) sets the gold standard for oysters and seafood. St. John's & Meeting Place has relocated to West Village and remains the benchmark for fine dining in Chattanooga.
Local Favorites
Champy's for world-class fried chicken (yes, you can get a 40oz in a koozie) and Community Pie for phenomenal gluten-free pizza and house-made Limoncello.
The Read House
Our oldest hotel — presidents have stayed here. Visit Bridgeman's Chophouse for a formal prime steakhouse experience, or settle into their bar for a more relaxed cocktail hour.
Culture & Fitness
The Tivoli Theatre reopens Fall 2026 — perfect for Broadway shows and live music. The Downtown Y is where I've played full-court basketball for 15 years and is THE best overall gym, in my opinion, in the city.
Umbrella Alley
One of the most photographed spots in the city. Look for the alleyway decorated with a canopy of colorful umbrellas—perfect for a quick photoshoot if that's your thing.

Warehouse Row
High-end retail meets industrial-chic architecture.
The Experience: Two Ten Jack
A Japanese Izakaya that gets everything right. Order the Pork Gyoza, the Daily Maki, and the "East by Northwest" — arguably the best single cocktail in Chattanooga. An essential stop on any tour of the city.

The Southside
The industrial heart and the city's most vibrant social scene.
🍝 The Masterpiece: Alleia
I ran the bar program here for Chef Daniel Lindley. It feels like a rustic Manhattan loft and is the most consistently vibey place in the city. My order: Negroni → bottle of the Ripasso Valpolicella → Taleggio Flatbread & Bacon Wrapped Dates→ Fig & Gorgonzola Pizza → Pappardelle → Pork Shoulder → Cinnamon Gelato.
🍽️ Modern Culinary
2nd American is Lindley's newest high-end concept — don't sleep on it. Elsie's Daughter delivers an incredible Appalachian-Belgian atmosphere that is unlike anything else in the city. It is candelit and romantic.
🥩 Southside Staples
Main Street Meats — the burger and steak frites are to die for (order a "Tipple" to drink). 50/50 Wine Bar, opened by my friend Jason Bowers, is perfect for an Aperol Spritz and a cheese plate.
🎳 The Insider Moves
Use the complimentary valet at STIR (inside the historic Choo Choo hotel) to solve parking, then enjoy their oysters and deep whiskey menu inside. Late night: Go to the Comedy Catch for stand-up or Station Street for tons of live music.
🏠 Common House
A private social club with a killer pool and coworking space inside a beautifully converted old YMCA building. This is where Chattanooga's creative class gathers.
🌮 Hole-in-the-Wall
La Altena — a total neighborhood staple and the site of my second date with my wife, Mackenzie. Some of the best Mexican food in the city, no question.

St. Elmo & The Mountain Base
Historic community charm at the foot of Lookout Mountain.
Common Table
Located inside Calvary Chapel — my home church and the home of my Friday morning Bible study. The food is excellent and the atmosphere is even better. A true community anchor.
Little Coyote
Another Erik Niel masterpiece — Michelin-recognized and putting a brilliant fresh twist on smoked meats and Tex-Mex. One of the most exciting restaurants in the entire city right now.
Neighborhood Hits
1885 Grill for a great patio, Purple Daisy for a quick sandwich and chips, and Mr. T's for pizza and ice cream — the perfect family night out at the mountain base.
The Woodshop
An intimate, high-quality listening room that feels like a hidden local secret. If you love live music without the noise of a traditional bar, this is your spot. A true insider gem.
